DataLab is a compact statistics package aiming at exploratory data analysis. Please visit the DataLab Web site for more information....

Preferences - General Options

Command: Setup > Preferences [Tab "General Options"]

The following default parameters may be set:

Desktop Color Controls the color of the DataLab desktop.
No. of Significant Export Digits This parameter determines the number of significant digits used when exporting to text-based data files (ASC Format, CSV files and MATLAB Scripts). The valid range is 2 to 20.
Table Display Precision Default value of precision used for displaying the data in the table editor. The valid range is -1 to 8. A value of -1 will result in exponential notation (two digits in exponent). Hint: internally DataLab always uses maximum precision (15 significant digits), no matter how the display precision is set.
Indefinite Value The Indefinite Value specifies a number which is used whenever an indefinite value is to be indicated. The valid range is +/-1.710308.
CSV Separator The CSV Separator specifies the separating character used for CSV (comma-separated values) files - comma, semicolon, colon and tabulator are supported.
Auto Advance after Enter The table editor can be set to automatically advance either vertically, or horizintally, or not at all after the "enter" key has been pressed. This feature is especially useful when entering data manually, either row-wise or column-wise.
Editor Font Here you can select the font used in the numeric table editor by selecting a suitable font from the drop down box. At the right of the font selection box you can select from different font sizes. Please note that the font size has only an effect if the selected font supports different character sizes.
Printer Font Here you can select the font used for printouts.
Default Window Width Defines the default width of new windows, and is used for the commands window/tile and Window/Cascade. The valid range is 0 to 1200 pixels. The width and the height of the plot window which had the focus at last may be transferred by clicking the "Use dimensions of active data window" button.
Default Window Height Defines the default height of new windows, and is used for the commands window/tile and Window/Cascade. The valid range is 0 to 1000 pixels. The width and the height of the plot window which had the focus at last may be transferred by clicking the "Use dimensions of active data window" button.
Action Log If this option is selected the actions of the user are recorded in an action log. We recommend to keep this option turned on at level 1 ("commands only"). The action log is stored on the local disk and will help us to support you in the case of an unexpected behavior of DataLab. In the case of a support case we will ask you to send us the action log file. The maximum size of the log file can be set by the control right to the checkbox. Attention: setting the action log to level 2 ("log everything") will record all kinds of low level actions and will slow down DataLab. Do not use it unless you are asked by a service technician.
Use <ESC> to close forms If this option is ticked off you can close the form which has the focus by pressing the <ESC> key.
Use full precision when copying to clipboard DataLab allows to set the precision of the data when copied into the Windows clipboard. The selected data is copied using exponential notation with 14 significant digits if this checkbox is ticked off. Otherwise the data is copied using the current precision of the corresponding columns in the data editor.
Display external control error messages This switch controls whether any erroneuous control commands sent from external applications to DataLab should be displayed. See control by external programs.
Adjust size of editor to main form when opening If ticked off the size of the numerical editor will be adjusted to the size of the main form so that the matrix viewer and the editor cover the entire main form. If this option is not selected the size of the editor window will be stored as the default size upon closing DataLab. This default size will be used whenever the numerical editor is brought into display.
Use classic keyboard short cuts in text editors This option allows to use classic keyboard shortcuts so the usage of the mouse is minimized during writing scripts, comments or other texts.
Replace multiple spaces by tabs when copying When ticked off this option will force DataLab to replace multiple spaces (and a few other character combinations which are used as separators) by tabs when copying text from a report window into the Windows clipboard. Using tabs instead of spaces will enable Microsoft Excel(TM) to recognize individual columns when pasting the text into the spreadsheet.
Automatic Dropdown of the List of Open Windows If this option is turned on, the Open Windows Selector is opened when you move the mouse over the control (otherwise you have to click the control in order to open it).
